Federal Structure: The Decentralization of Financial Powers to States and Panchayats (the Indian Experience)

Abstract
The federal structure of the Indian Constitution, which came into force on 26th January 1950, is unique in nature. Constitutional framers borrowed this idea of federal structure from Canada, while idea of concurrent list from Australia. Fundamental rights were borrowed from USA & UK, way to amend constitution from South Africa, due procedure of law from Japan, Emergency from Germany, Fundamental duties from USSR, preamble from Ireland, parlaimentry democracy withou monarch was modified form in UK’s system and so forth. Panchayati Raj was India’s own cultural and time memorial concept. The paper discusses how power is shared among partners of federal structure.
